I was recently advised that an employer had told an employee that she could not take time off to look after her father who had a stroke!
Every employee has a right to take unpaid time for compassionate leave or looking after an elderly for a reasonable time period.
Compassionate leave can be taken for any of the following reasons:
1- looking after a sick relative. Relative can be spouse, partner, child, parent or someone you care for
3- if a dependent has been injured or assaulted even if they are not physically hurt but need comfort
4- unexpected disruption of care arrangements
